About William Blinn Communications

When I was in high school, I thought I wanted to be a disc jockey, and I was for a while. Then I discovered the news department.

Broadcast journalism taught me a lot about saying things briefly, but accurately.

Along the way, I've worked for state government in Ohio, operated a photo studio, been the communications director for a "value-added reseller" (a company that matches hardware and software solutions to clients), and I've ventured out on my own armed with computers, cameras, and a brain.

While I'm not a designer by training, I've managed to pick up enough understanding of design that I can create with what Rick Altman calls "an absence of ugliness". My design is unlikely to win any prestigious awards, but it also won't get in the way of your message. You know what I mean if you've ever watched a TV ad for a product, thought the ad was wonderful, and then realized you couldn't remember the name of the product being advertised.

Design must work with the words. Good design, like good typography, should be invisible. Both should promote the message.

If that sounds like the approach you'd like to take, send me an e-mail and I'll get back to you soon.

PS: I am not the William Blinn who wrote the "Starsky and Hutch" teleplays. I believe that William Blinn is from Toledo and now lives in California. I have no information about how to contact him.

The monthly newsletter

Clients receive a monthly newsletter by e-mail. That newsletter is available on-line, too. Topics range from website management to spam prevention, with occasional looks at the future of technology. Past issues are in the archive.

Philosophical essays

Occasionally I write a philosophical piece. The topics are eclectic, to say the least. You may even find that one point of view is diametrically opposed to another. The articles are in the vault.

If we're looking for an "absence of ugliness" why is this picture here?

Do you want a pretty designer? If so, I'm not your guy. But if you're seeking a talented writer who can accomplish good design (or a designer who can write) then I'm ready to help!
